en-route from Portland to Sacramento.
This "GS-4" 4-8-4 "Northern" engine was built by Lima in 1941, and was retired from
regular service in 1957, but had been used on several occasions since, including the
American Freedom train in 1975-76 and several other excursions as late as 2007.
You could hear its whistle from miles away, no mistaking when it was passing through town.
